I found a very interesting op-ed piece in the NYT today about a guy who goes around converting back yards to CSA plots. For the cost of a standard share - about $25 a week - you get a box of veggies grown in your very own back yard (another box goes into the CSA pool). I would happily pay for something like this if it existed in Kingston. It's perfect for people who have no understanding of gardening and not much time; it provides expert help, but you can always go in and muck about in it yourself and learn about how food gets made. Plus, it turns your yard from something that sits there growing useless grass that you just have to mow, into a productive and useful food machine.

I seem to recall hearing about a guy doing something like this in the Ottawa area. I'll have to try to find the article. Fabulous idea.
