Teh new site!
Wed, 02/27/2008 - 14:19The new site! This is it! It is up! It has been sitting in my drawer for, like, forever, and I finally got around to Drupalling it. I spent last night tweaking, uploading, tweaking, uploading, tweaking... and now here it is. All blue and pink. And in my own name, even! Huzzah!
I've been blogging for a million years. Ok, eight years. I'm debating bringing over my archives, because. They're embarrassing. But I might. We'll see.
I also feel weird about having my picture on here. I feel like Oprah. It's so blatantly all me, me, me! On the other hand, it always has been. So this is just a tacit recognition of my standard-issue blogger's ego. In blue! And pink! The site, not my ego. That's kind of a browny-red.
I'll be moving everything over here eventually - setting up the portfolio, past news, resume, articles, that sort of thing. Eventually.
So the question is - now that I'm outed! Outed as a blogger! A dirty, dirty blogger! - how much do I talk about on my blog? I don't really plan to change my writing style, but I think the age-old question we all ask ourselves on a daily basis is this: how much profanity is too much profanity?
By the way, the site's title is from Hamlet. Polonius is pontificating endlessly and Gertrude snaps at him: "More matter, less art." It just strikes me as a refreshingly tart reminder that communication has to have content as well as beauty -- although perhaps it is a hopeless lesson in this sound-byte-driven world.
I don't know how long I'll keep this design - it already kinda hurts my eyes - but now that I've learned Drupal it will be a million times easier to change. So. There.
About
About me... OK. I'm 27. Slightly pudgy. Red hair. Raised in Victoria, BC. Now living in Kingston, ON. I'm a nerd, I like to read books, and I like to yell at the radio (mainly CBC, but I'm not yelling at the CBC, I'm yelling with the CBC). I'm also into politics - I used to be the Federal NDP Candidate for Kingston & the Islands.* I'm very outspoken. Obviously.
I keep a roof over my head, my boyfriend's head, and the heads of a fish, two birds and a cat, by working at Queen's University as an Engineering Systems Technologist. I love Queen's. It's a great place to work, and I work in the coolest building ever. Indeed, I get to run the Live Building Lab, which isn't a lab so much as an idea, a website, and a bunch of database software. But it sounds terribly impressive, doesn't it? It's pretty neat.
I also do web and print design in my spare time, for non-profits mostly, and I love it. Indeed, I designed this website! And it's very pink!
* Mandatory disclaimer: Anything I write on here isn't the opinion of the party, naturally. It probably should be, but hey.
